Penny Arcade is a webcomic written by Jerry Holkins and illustrated by Mike Krahulik.
The strip features Holkins' and Krahulik's cartoon alter egos, Tycho Brahe and John Gabriel ("Gabe") respectively. The two characters spend much of their time playing and commenting on computer and video games, which forms the basis of the humor in the strip. Most of the time, Gabe serves the purpose of the comic, and Tycho the comic foil.
There is little plot or general continuity in Penny Arcade strips, owing to the writers' dislike for the concept.
Profanity and violence are common in Penny Arcade. In addition, there is at least one comic mentioning sexual assault.
Penny Arcade has its own shop that sells video-game related merchandise, whether related to the comic or not. As of February 2017, there have been nine volumes of Penny Arcade comics released, spanning from 1998 to 2008.
The comic's creators have also hosted a podcast, released a Penny Arcade game, and created PAX (formerly, "Penny Arcade Expo").
